Royal Albert Hall concerts, sing-alongs, Nutcracker Ballet guaranteed to spread Christmas cheer
Nothing elicits the holiday spirit like a visit to the legendary Royal Albert Hall, festooned in red and green décor, alive with songs of the season and with rich traditions, such as visits from Father Christmas and performances of The Nutcracker Ballet.
First to arrive will be Father Christmas, who will greet youngsters with a gift and a photo opportunity at the end of an immersive, interactive journey through the winter wonders of Royal Albert Hall from 5-24 December. The Snow Queen and other characters will serve as guides, with interactive games and activities and music along the way.
The Hall celebrates 12 days of Christmas in its own way, with the Christmas Festival concert series from 13-24 December. Performances include candlelight caroling, singalongs; and orchestral, ensemble and choral concerts by noted groups, with a special performance by Katherine Jenkins on 18 December.
Tchaikovsky’s Nutcracker Ballet will be presented four times daily 28-31 December by a full symphony orchestra accompanying the 70-member Birmingham Royal Ballet troupe in its first Royal Albert Hall performance of the holiday favourite.
Staging and video projection is being handled by the Tony Award-winning 59 Productions, responsible for the acclaimed An American in Paris and War Horse. You’ll recognize the familiar voice of Drosselmeyer, young Clara’s unseen godfather, as that of noted actor Simon Callow.
