Spring over easily to one of the world’s great garden shows
One of the most magnificent spectacles of spring in London is right in Nell Gwynn Chelsea Accommodation’s neighbourhood, the annual RHS Chelsea Flower Show — and tickets for the 22-26 May event are going fast.
The Royal Horticultural Society has staged the show since 1912, and it is now held on the grounds of the Royal Hospital Chelsea, attracting exhibitors and guests from around the world.
This year’s programme will showcase a section with gardens designed to enhance health and well-being on a small scale and the importance of plants to the global environment.
Another focus will be on small space gardening, providing information and momentum to create urban gardens despite size limitations.
The new Chelsea Late Event on the Friday of the show is designed to appeal to a younger demographic, with extended hours to enjoy bands, strolling performers, and an artisanal food market in the beauty of the Artisan Gardens.
Centerpiece of the show is the Great Pavilion, which houses exhibits by 85 of the world’s finest nurseries, florists, and plant scientists. Master growers are celebrated in The RHS Experience, honouring the specialised growing methods of independent nurseries.
Ten show gardens — ranging from a romantic 18th century English tea garden to a Mediterranean landscape, and a special tribute inspired by migrants forced to leave their homelands — will line Main Avenue and many of the designer boutiques and restaurants will also be getting in to the spirit by putting on their own stunning displays.
The RHS Chelsea Flower Show is something to be savoured in the moment — with clever takeaways that can enhance your life, wherever you live and whatever your space — all year-round.
